MCG Board Meeting Minutes #8
August 25, 2023 at 4:00 PM, MCG Plot A18 (Beatriz)
I. PRESIDENT’S REPORT (Beatriz)
1. Secretary resigned. There is a need for all board members to work together for the next 4 months. Heidi (D77) volunteered to take over the secretary post. Beatriz to thank Heidi in behalf of the board and the whole community garden (CG).
2. Kate Eickstead and Anna Mines from the City are attending the CG meeting on Aug 31. Anna will be conducting a survey to assess on how to improve the CG program and to know if the needs of this program are being met or not. Board to assist while continuing the meeting.
3. The board agreed to give May Choo (C64) until Aug 29th inspection and see what the result of the inspection of her plot be. Whatever the result may be, the board will meet or communicate via email at a latter date after inspection.
4. The board agreed to discuss on how to make the garden a better place during the Aug 31st meeting with the whole membership.

V. APPLICATION OFFICER’S REPORT (Elena) note: updated report
1. WAITLIST is temporarily closed. Notice is posted on the bulletin board and the blog. Last date entered Aug 3/23
2. 94 - Total number of people on the waitlist
3. 2 - Total number of plots available (B32, B37)
4. C47 - latest plot that was assigned on Aug 26
5. D70 - Marie (D70) has transferred to B27. The board agreed to repurpose D70 because
of the plot’s problem (shaded, leaves and caterpillars falling from the monkey pod
tree, roots lifting the bricks etc.). Kate E. have inspected D70 during a garden visit and meeting with 3 board members on Aug 3. She advised the board to ask the membership for suggestions/ideas on repurposing D70. This will be another topic during the Aug 31st CG meeting.
VI. CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE REPORT (Diana) updated report: Elena
Clean up was held on Sat, Aug 26 at 7:30-11:30 AM. It was led by Andrew (B31) and Rachael. Plots B32 and B37 were cleaned. All bricks taken from B32 are in the middle mall. If needed, these can be use for repurposing D70.

VIII. COMPOST COMMITTEE REPORT (Will)
Greens were added to Bin 4 and 5 during the afternoon cleanup in early July, and aerated and watered the rest of the bins the following week. During the Aug 26 Clean-up, we distributed compost from Bin 6 and filled it with green waste. We also added more greens to Bin 4 and 5.
IX. OLD BUSINESS
CHICKENS - according to the City, we have to live with the problem.
RATS - some rat bait stations have been set up around the garden. Number of rats is diminishing as observed by few gardeners.
X. NEW BUSINESS:
a. Putting back the plot monitoring from once a month to two times a month.
b. Sending the letter to the BLUE via email and putting duly filled form on the concerned plots (Rachael and Colby).
c. Officer Elections. Suggestions on how to prepare for this important event? Not well discussed. Elena had some ideas.
d. Dump Run - MUST be done before handing over the garden to the 2024 new board members. Aggie (C-60), volunteering to do a dump run using her truck, according to Beatriz/Rachael. Elena said or MCG can also rent a truck.
NEXT MEETING: Still to be decided.
I was told by the City that the mulch pile on Manoa School property is exclusively for the schools use and not for the MCG members to use, please provide clarity.
